What is General Conference? Why is it important? What issues will be discussed?
Join us on Sunday, March 18 after the 11 am service for a luncheon to examine these and other questions. Hundreds of petitions and resolutions have been presented, along with significant proposals to restructure the administrative agencies of the United Methodist Church. Our program will be emceed by Saul Pacheco, a veteran of General Conferences. The principal speaker will be Jay Brim, the SWTX Conference Lay Leader and the leader of our annual conferences laity delegates to General Conference
Jay is a member of Westlake UMC. He has been a member of the UMC General Council for Finance and Administration (1996-2004), a delegate to General Conference and a delegate to the South Central Jurisdictional Conference. He is an active member of the UMC Connectional Table, an official entity formed to serve as both the visioning body of the church and the steward of resources to carry out the vision of the denomination worldwide.
A light lunch will be provided. The event is sponsored by Saint John’s UMC Intentional Faith Development committee for the purpose of educating about this quadrennial UMC event.
MFSA MEETING – Thursday, April 12

At the monthly SWTX Methodist Federation for Social Justice (MFSA) chapter meeting on April 12, Jay Brim, the SWTX Conference Lay Leader and the leader of laity delegates to General Conference, will be present to discuss the foremost issues to be addressed by GC2012 in Tampa. Hundreds of petitions and resolutions have been presented, along with significant proposals to restructure the administrative agencies of the United Methodist Church.
